The two dozen North Papuan Mainland – D'Entrecasteaux languages may form a group of Papuan Tip languages.
A 2008 analysis of the Austronesian Basic Vocabulary Database[1] considered six putative North Papuan Mainland – D'Entrecasteaux (NPMD) languages. Two of these, in the Are branch, emerged as non-NPMD languages. The other four formed a unit, but with Molima closest to Dobu rather than in the Bwaidoga group.
